Reliance Communications (RCom) is in advanced stages of negotiations with Telecommunication Infrastructure Company (TIC), Iran’s leading telecom service provider, to set up two cable landing stations in the country. The firms are likely to sign a Rs 300-crore pact later this week, followed by a formal announcement.
RCom intends to land its Falcon cable system at Bandar Abbas (in Hormozgan province) and Chabahar (in the Sistan and Baluchestan province) in Iran.
The firm will sell bandwidth to TIC, which in turn, will resell it in Iran, sources said. For Iran, this means setting up a redundancy network, ensuring uninterrupted communications and further rolling out broadband services and e-commerce applications.
