Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) today introduced per-second billing tariff option for its subscribers across the CDMA and GSM platform.

The call charges will be 1 paise per second, it said. RCom is the latest mobile service provider to offer the per-second tariff. Earlier, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Aircel had announced the per-second tariff, intensifying the competition among operators.

RCom's new plan is an extension of the 'Simply Reliance Plan' announced last month, offering single tariff rate across all services.

RCom has announced three tariff variants -- 1 paisa per second, Rs 1 for 3 minutes and 50 paise per minute -- effective November 5, 2009, the company said in a statement.

"We now extend the Simply Reliance initiative by offering two new products catering to varied customer needs with the same simplicity and unconditional transparency," RCom President Mahesh Prasad said.

As per the 1 paisa per second billing plan, all local and STD calls would be charged at 1 paise per second, while SMS (local and STD) would be charged at 50 paise.

SMS rates for the 50 paise per minute plan are Re 1 (local) and Rs 1.50 (STD).
