Reliance Communications (Rel Comm), the flagship company of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, has bagged an e-governance project from the West Bengal government and signed a master service agreement with the state government for the project. Reliance Communications would set up 1,860 common service centres (CSCs) across the state for providing government-to-government, government-to-business, business-to-business and business-to-consumer services, an official statement said today. Without divulging financial details of the project, the statement added that the project would benefit 26 lakh households in the state. Sources in the company said the project would cover North 24 Parganas, West Midnapur, Burdwan and Purulia districts. "The business model will be on a build, own and operate basis," the statement said. "The West Bengal government is pleased to select Reliance Communications based on technical evaluation to establish and operate the service delivery platform for rural areas under the national e-governance project," West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development Principal Secretary M N Roy said. Prakash Bajpai, CEO, Enterprise Business, Reliance Communications said: "The signing of an MoU with the West Bengal government is a leap forward in our endeavour to enter the e-governance space." |
