Our Regional Bureau Ahmedabad
Reliance Infocomm on Monday cautioned the subscribers of the Reliance India Mobile against "a false and misleading SMS (short message)" being circulated on sections of its network.

The company said around 5,000 Reliance India Mobile customers from Gujarat received a message on their phones on Monday, reading, "Reliance celebrates its anniversary by giving a special offer. Just forward this message to five Reliance India Mobile (customers) and make 100 free calls."

Reliance said the messages have not been issued by the company.

It is the "handiwork of mischievous elements seeking to confuse our customers," the company said.

The company clarified that this message is a hoax and that no such offer is available from Reliance.

"We wish to reassure our customers that when the company announces schemes and offers, the same is done across our customer base and not to selective users "" as in this case," a company statement said.

A spokesperson of the company here said such messages have been flashed on Reliance mobile phones in other parts of the country as well.

Attempts are on to ascertain the source of the messages, the spokesperson said.

There are about three lakh Reliance India mobile customers in Gujarat.
