Reliance Communications Ltd, one of India's leading telecom service providers, plans to provide 3G services in 17 major towns in Orissa by the end of this month. The company has a subscriber base of around four million in the state.
On a pan-India basis, the telecom operator intends to extend its 3G services to 13 circles of the country by the end of March this year and cover all the 22 telecom circles by the end of 2011. Reliance Communications has already rolled out its 3G services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chandigarh.
"We will be covering 17 major towns in Orissa by the end of this month. The company has a fibre optic network of around 7000 km which is the largest in the state. From next week, our 3G services would be available in Cuttack, Rourkela and 12 other major towns in the state”, said Vivek K Garg, regional head of Reliance Communications.
He declined to comment on the investment made by the company on 3G mobile services.
Reliance Communications has licenses to launch 3G mobile services in 13 telecom circles of the country. The company holds 3G licenses in the telecom circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, North East, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and Assam
"The launch of Reliance 3G is an integral part of our Vision 2015 of creating a 'Wirefree India' built upon the ‘affordable 3G for All platform. Personalization of services, simplification of tariffs and a content rich portfolio on the ‘Best in Class’ 3G wireless network will enable Reliance customers to get a much superior 3G service experience, significantly differentiated from others in the marketplace”, said Garg.
“Reliance 3G services will offer the widest bouquet of cutting edge services including video calling, mobile TV, video streaming and applications accessed at superfast speeds ubiquitously on a variety of mobile and personal computing devices. A superior network with 100 per cent optic back haul, thousands of content rich applications delivered in an easy-to-access mode on a mobile screen, personalization options and simple tariffs including daily sachet packs are the four pillars that will create a significant differentiation for Reliance 3G services amongst customers”, he added.
Taking on expansion plans in Orissa, Rahul Chaudhary, chief executive officer (Orissa circle) of Reliance Communications said that the company has 1700 mobile towers in the state at present and plans to add 700 more towers in the next 3-4 months. The dual technology provider has three million GSM subscribers and about one million CDMA subscribers.
