Reliance Infocomm to finish phase 2 of TN rollout by Dec

Reliance Infocomm plans to invest Rs 1,500 crore to rollout its network in Tamil Nadu to 600 towns and 10,000 villages by the end of the year. At present, the rollout has covered 400 towns and 6,000 villages.
 
V G Somasekhar, Reliance Infocomm's geography head for Tamil Nadu and Kerala, said once the year end objective, referred to as Phase II rollout, is reached it would make the company the largest digital provider in Tamil Nadu.
 
Reliance's network, underpinned by optical fibre, allows transmission of both data and voice.
 
Somasekhar said Reliance's investment in Phase II took into account requirements till 2010. The company currently has a subscriber base of 9.2 lakh in the state. One of the aims of the company is provide its rural users with facilities similar to that of urban users, he added.
