"The process of applying for incentives is a little ambiguous. The investors still have to assume that a part of their money will be returned by the government. There is no surety about the returns. It is a matter of slight discomfort. However we are still going ahead with our proposal to apply for incentives for our fab unit," says SemIndia CEO Vinod Agarwal.

Ravi Khanna, CEO, Moser Baer Photovoltaic, differs: "There is no cause of concern in that area. If the company has a firm plan to invest, then it should have no problem with the guidelines. If you have the backing and money on the ground, there is no cause of concern."

Poornima Shinoy, president, ISA, opines: "This particular issue is a matter to be dealt with individual manufacturers. ISA thinks the government has put in huge amounts of effort in formulating the guidelines. The only point that we are raising is that the ATMP should be considered as standalone units and not be clubbed with the fab units."
