Sify Limited is establishing internet centres in the tsunami-affected areas of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Kanyakumari and Chennai to provide free internet access facilities to the public, NGOs and other officials. |
The first centre in Cuddalore is already up and running, while the centre in Kanyakumari is expected to be onstream from tomorrow evening at the main railway station to enable easy access. |
Nagapattinam is posing a challenge in terms of connectivity for both telecom and internet access but connectivity is to be established as soon as possible. |
Sify has also opened special pages on its consumer portal sify.com and samachar.com which is frequented by NRIs, to raise funds for the Red Cross. Donors in India or anywhere in the world can log onto and use their credit cards to donate towards the cost of the relief work being carried out by the Red Cross in all the affected areas. Donations may also be made to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund by logging onto sify.com. |
Sify had raised already some Rs 26 lakh online from donors worldwide for the Red Cross at the time of the Gujarat earthquake. |
