Spice Telecom launches 'Sabka' phone

In a move to make inroads into the rural markets in India through product vernacularisation, Spice Telecom has introduced its 'people's phone' with a lifetime prepaid connectivity at just Rs 599.

The S-300 phone, laun-ched in Bangalore on Tues-day by Spice Telecom chief executive officer Navin Kaul and chief operating offi-cer Rakesh Singh, comes with a Kannada audio inter-face system and push applications for value-added services (VAS) "" which will be of help to farmers to retrieve commodity prices of vegetables, pulses, beverages, cereals and others.

The phone comes with a three-year warranty, with outgoing calls to any local number at Re 1. Claiming to be the first in the GSM space to offer a phone at Rs 599, Rakesh Singh said that through this offer, his company is addressing a customer base constituting 75 per cent of Karnataka's population.
