Sun Microsystems has announced the expansion of its sales operations in Pune as it gears up for its next phase of market growth by extending its reach to the tier II and III cities. |
Offering integrated solutions in system, storage, software and services, Rajesh Rege, director (sales), said the addressable market in India for Sun was worth Rs 1,000 crore. |
"We are targeting a growth of 50 per cent, up from the current 30-40 per cent, as we consolidate our position in the top seven metros and spread our network along with our partners to 18 tier III cities and towns by the end of the current fiscal," he added. |
The company has opened offices in Coimbatore, Trichy, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Nagpur, Guwahati, Dehra Dun and Thiruvananthapuram over the last six months. |
He said a direct presence in the city, "will help us grow the small and medium business (SMB) market as well as reach out to the other cities in Maharashtra like Nashik and Nagpur." |
The company expects to add at least 50 clients directly in the city over the next 9-12 months. Sun already has a client base of 15-20 large companies and several SMBs here using its open source solutions. |
With a 25 per cent market share in identity management space, the company is keen on tapping the SMB market for its identity management solutions as 60 per cent of security threats are from internal staff and identity management forms a core of the security solutions for checking, managing and deploying of rights and accesses, he said. |
