Tablet sales outpace mobile phones in Indian online space: study

The study also finds that around 80% of the mobile phones sold were priced below Rs 5,000

Snapdeal.com, a website on Tuesday said tablets outpace mobile phones in the online shopping list of India consumers. According to a study done by the Snapdeal, growth in tablets outpaced mobiles by around 3 times with tablets sales growing at 33% month-on-month while mobile phone sales witnessed a growth rate of 11%. The website also said mobile phones and tablets are the most searched and bought products online.

The study also finds that around 80% of the mobile phones sold were priced below Rs 5,000 while 95% of the tablets sold were below Rs 10,000. The finds are based on the on the sales and traffic seen on the company's website over a period of three months (July 2012 – September 2012), snapdeal.com said.

 

Snapdeal also said that among mobiles phones the top five selling brands in website are Micromax, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and HTC. Further the study also said, Indian tablet brands Zync, Penta and Intex are now finding greater acceptability amongst the online shoppers on Snapdeal.com.
