Trai has issued a show cause notice to Tata Teleservices (TTSL) "for compromising the national security requirements" under its push-to-talk (PTT) services as calls without caller line identification were made possible throughout the country. Tata Teleservices had claimed to have stopped the service after the government's directive. The telecom regulator had called upon both Tata Teleservices and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (TTML) to explain why action should not be taken against them for violation of the licence agreement for breach of national security, causing licence fee losses to the government, and bypassing the levy payment to BSNL. As per clause 40.4 of the unified access service licence, the licensee is obliged to provide, without any delay, all the tracing facilities to trace nuisance, obnoxious or malicious calls, messages or communications transported through his equipment and network to authorised officers of the government including police, customs, excise, intelligence department offices, when such information is required for investigations or detection of crimes and in the interest of national security, Trai said. "TTSL/TTML by sharing of subscriber terminal, active infrastructure, including base stations throughout their service areas and spectrum with an ISP have compromised on the breach of national security requirements as calls without CLI are made possible throughout the country," Trai said in the show cause notice. |
