The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has directed mobile operators to furnish the details of the steps taken by them to protect confidentiality of information about their subscribers within 15 days.
Both the GSM as well as CDMA operators have been asked to ensure confidentiality of subscriber information as provided in the licence conditions and put in place appropriate mechanisms so as to prevent any breach, the telecom watchdog said in a statement here today.
Trai noted that allegations of breach of confidentiality of information are being raised by customers before different courts, consumer fora and the authority itself.
Consumers and consumer groups alleged that operators have not taken adequate steps to put in place a foolproof mechanism for ensuring confidentiality of the subscribers information.
