Two Kerala IT mission projects win awards

Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) has won this year’s Computer World Honors Program Laureate awards for two of its projects in the categories of economic opportunity and health.

The awards are instituted by the International Data Group (IDG), a Boston-based technology media firm and research organisation.

In the health category, KSITM received the award for its initiative 'Dr SMS', which provides comprehensive information on health-related resources via SMS to citizens who are in urgent need to locate the nearest health facility. This was developed with the technical support of National Informatics Kerala.

The second project, in economic opportunity category, involves the utilisation of mobile technologies innovatively to create, improve and deliver public service with better transparency, accountability and reach, thereby catalysing economic development in Kerala.

 

They recongnise visionary application of information technology to promote positive social, economic and educational change. KSITM director Ishita Roy received the medals and citations. Both the nominations found their place among 45 finalists chosen by an international jury.
