Singapore-listed Unified Telecom has recently launched a host of mobile advertising services for state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in the eastern region.

The new services will allow users of the BSNL network to new services across graphics, audio, text and video platforms. This in turn would serve to create more revenue for the beleaguered BSNL, which has been raking up continuing losses and an ever shrinking consumer base.

However, Unified Telecom argued that while the market has witnessed growth by way of numbers, there is a problem by way of the fact that most users of mobile phones are averse to the idea of reciveing advertisements on their handsets.

“In spite of India having more then 800+ million mobile subscribers the number of people who have opted in for receiving advertisements are actually very few as they do not see the real value proposition in it”, said Dhritiman Chakravorty, executive director, Unified Telecom.
