IT major Wipro is considering strong action against an employee who created a "bomb scare" at its M G Road office in Bangalore, triggering panic in the city.

"Appropriate action is being taken against him," a Wipro spokesperson said.

She declined to comment on whether the employee, Prashant Kumar, will be asked to leave the firm.

Kumar (30) was arrested by police on Wednesday after the anonymous telephone call to the Wipro office that a bomb had been planted in the building, was traced to him.

It later turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search of the premises by police yielded nothing. Police said Kumar had telephoned his supervisor from a public booth.
