Wipro, India’s third largest IT services company, is planning to replicate its success in the government space in India. It is now courting the state sector across the world.
The company, which is quite active in the government space with a healthy revenue stream, is bidding for various government related projects in the US, Europe and Australia, Suresh Vaswani, joint CEO for Wipro’s IT business said in Bangalore. He however declined to share the number of government deals the company has bagged in countries other than India.
“We have created a government vertical as a strategic priority. We are not only restricting it to address the Indian government because we are very strong here, but broadbasing our offerings globally. As we become more and more global in terms of our workforce, global development centres, the openness to our services is fairly high in all government organisations globally,” Vaswani said on the sidelines of a Nasscom event here.
With its acquisition of Infocrossing almost two year ago, Wipro is already providing back office works related to medical programmes to the state of Missouri in the US.
Vaswani said within the government, the company’s focus is to work in areas of citizen services, education and revamping legacy applications. Wipro is a major player in the government space in India apart from TCS.
