Over 14,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) have been opened in the country as on October 21 to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices, Union Health Minister J P Nadda told the Lok Sabha on Friday.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Scheme, 2,047 types of medicines and 300 surgical devices have been brought under its ambit, including cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic drugs, he said in a written response to a question.
The PMBJP scheme was launched by the government to set up dedicated outlets known as PMBJKs to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices.

Capital markets regulator Sebi is training a large  language model (LLM) to further cut processing times on approval requirements, whole time member Ananth Narayan G said on Tuesday.
"We are actually starting to train an in-house LLM in Sebi to process, so that the processing times for fresh funds and fresh schemes can come down dramatically," Narayan said, addressing a CII event here.
LLMs are advanced AI systems designed to understand and generate human language. They use deep learning techniques and are trained on massive amounts of text data, allowing them to perform tasks like writing, summarizing, and translating text.
While efforts to deploy AI and machine learning are on in all sectors, this may be the first time that a financial regulator in the country would have disclosed specific efforts like developing an LLM.
Narayan said Sebi has already reduced the time taken for processing applications for clearance on mutual fund schemes and initial public offerings to less than .

Allahabad High Court judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav, who purportedly gave controversial statements at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad function, appeared before the Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday, sources said.
According to the sources, Yadav appeared before the collegium headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and was asked to put forth his version on the statements made.
The top court on December 10 took note of news reports over the statements and sought a report from the Allahabad High Court on the issue.
"The Supreme Court has taken note of newspaper reports of a speech given by Mr Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a sitting judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. The details and particulars have been called from the high court and the matter is under consideration," an official statement had said.
