The exploration and production policy for hydrocarbons being the cornerstone of India's energy security, a committee led by C Rangarajan has recently proposed a new and liberalised framework for production-sharing contracts and gas pricing. This article focuses on the proposed gas pricing mechanism.With the commencement of the New Exploration and Licensing Policy (NELP) in 1999, opening the sector to all players including foreign companies, followed by the introduction of liquefied natural gas and supplies from Reliance Industries' KG-D6 gas fields, the volume of gas supply in the country has tripled. Though inalienable rights of the shareholders as the true owners of the corporation and the role of the management as trustees on behalf of the shareholders adhering to business ethics by making a distinction between personal and corporate funds in the management of a company have adequately been emphasised since the report of Narayana Murthy Committee on Corporate Governance in 2003, there needs to be harmonisation of regulatory requirements in the proposed Companies Act and the new Sebi&rsquo;s Listing Agreement.

Accusing the Centre of not sending funds for the 'Awas Yojana' for the last three years to the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday launched  'Banglar Bari', a scheme funded entirely by her government.
She said that over 28 lakh genuine beneficiaries were identified in a survey conducted by the state for the 'Banglar Bari' scheme for which a total of Rs 1.2 lakh would be transferred to them by next December.
During the day, funds of Rs 60,000 were transferred to the bank accounts of 12 lakh beneficiaries in the first instalment, the chief minister said.
"My life is dedicated to working for people. Today, in the interest of the people of rural Bengal, I launched the 'Banglar Bari' project. The first instalment of Rs 60,000 was transferred directly through the bank to 12 lakh beneficiaries to build houses," Banerjee said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday hit out at the Opposition for initiating impeachment notices against Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Allahabad High Court's Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, saying "whoever speaks the truth" is threatened in this way.
Speaking at the World Hindu Economic Forum 2024, he also accused the Congress of practicing double standards.
"Whoever speaks the truth, these people will pressurise him with impeachment (motions), and still they talk about the Constitution. Look at their double standards.  "An Allahabad High Court judge said there should be a Uniform Civil Code, and the world over the feelings of the majority community are respected," the UP chief minister said.
What was a person's crime if he voices these opinions, he asked.
"Shouldn't there be a Uniform Civil Code in the country? The world over, the system runs as per what the majority community says and India is saying the discrimination between majority and minority .

In a veiled attack at the Congress, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said while the BJP considers the entire country as its family, there are "some people" who have put it at the feet of the leaders of "one family" for its benefit.
