Tucked away in a corridor at Madan Mahatta&rsquo;s magnificent show of photographs of Delhi&rsquo;s modernist architecture from the 1950s to the 1980s is a small image of Sapru House. Taken in 1957, the photograph records &mdash; in black and white &mdash; a building whose red-and-white sandstone fa&ccedil;ade and stupa-like dome is an unmistakeable echo of the stately architecture of British New Delhi, though with the pillared verandah becoming a column-embedded wall, and the chhatris more extreme than anything Lutyens might have done. And yet this was a post-independence construction, built to house the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and inaugurated by Nehru.

Some 15 years ago, a friend of mine told me with some excitement that someone he&rsquo;d asked what kinds of films they liked had replied: &ldquo;I like films with a sense of place.&rdquo; My friend thought this an exceptionally poetic answer. I grudgingly agreed, silently wishing that I had come up with the formulation myself. Clearly, neither he nor I was yet acquainted with Andrei Tarkovsky, giant of Russian cinema, who had long ago declared that cinema was about sculpting in time.

Dibakar Banerjee&rsquo;s Shanghai, while receiving much acclaim, has also been subjected to scathing criticism. The first line of attack, ostensibly aesthetic, compares Shanghai with Costa Gavras&rsquo; 1969 political thriller Z, and finds it sorely wanting. The second type of criticism, often merging with the first, holds Shanghai&rsquo;s politics up as either ridiculously unbelievable, deeply compromised, or both.

Ferrari ki Sawaari is the story of a mild-mannered Parsi with a government job that doesn&rsquo;t pay very much. Under-fire Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has hit back at his former teammate-turned-commentator David Warner for criticising his batting, saying, "everyone's here to write newspapers, write articles."
Labuschagne has been struggling with his form for quite some time but seems to have found some rhythm with a resolute 64 in the pink-ball Test, which helped Australia beat India by 10 wickets and level the five-match series in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Former opener Warner was unimpressed with Labuschagne's performance and claimed that he had a "lack of awareness" after being dismissed caught in the gully.
Responding to Warner's comments, Labuschagne told News Corp that he'd "like to see him check how many times I've been caught at gully, because apparently I get out there every week.

India batter Shubman Gill says the need to put up a big first innings total has been the talking point among his team's batters ahead of the third Test against Australia and each one of them has devised a plan to make it happen at the Gabba.
Gill didn't play the first Test due to a finger injury but looked good in his brief innings of 31 and 28 during the Pink Ball Test at Adelaide which India lost by 10 wickets.
"As a batting group, we are looking to post a big total first up. That's been the key discussion and every batter has his own game plan," Gill said in the pre-match press conference.
