This transformative initiative will be India's first and largest commercial-scale gasification and CCU project, targeting net-zero emissions by capturing 100% of CO2 emissions generated during the gasification process. The Ministry of Coal launched the Rs8,500 crore Financial Incentive Scheme, approved by the Cabinet, to promote Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects. This is a crucial step towards India's target of gasifying 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030.

A year after a security breach in Parliament, sources in the Delhi Police said they have submitted clinching evidence and made a watertight case against the six accused.
The security breach happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack on December 13, 2023 and the accused have been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The trial in the case is yet to start as the Delhi Police's probe is underway. But officials claim that they have sufficient evidence against the perpetrators, who were led by Karnataka resident Manoranjan D.
The accused had launched a coordinated gas attack by opening colourful canisters in both inside and outside the Parliament house during the Zero Hour.
Manoranjan, along with Sagar Sharma, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and opened the canisters that released a yellow gas in the House.
Two others -- Amol Shinde and Neelam Azad -- sprayed coloured gases from canisters outside the Parliament .

India ran out of superlatives in hailing history-maker D Gukesh after he became the first teenager world champion in chess on Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing him as an inspiration for "millions of young minds".
The 18-year-old Gukesh's triumph was celebrated far and wide across the country with the PM joining the sports fraternity and others in lauding his incredible achievement.
He won after prevailing in a tense 14th and last game of the title showdown against holder Ding Liren of China in Singapore.

Lumina Datamatics on Monday said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a 100 per cent stake in TNQ Tech, a Chennai-based digital publishing technology company.
The acquisition is expected to be completed in two tranches, with 80 per cent stake to be purchased by December 31, 2024, and the remaining 20 per cent by July 31, 2026, company MD and CEO Sameer Kanodia said.
"The first tranche will cost Rs 336 crore, with the second tranche's price determined by future EBITDA metrics.
"This acquisition will collectively strengthen us to over 6,500 employees globally and establish us amongst the dominant service providers in the world of digital content," he said.
Post acquisition, TNQ will become a stepdown subsidiary of Datamatics Global Services, according to a regulatory filing. Lumina Datamatics is a subsidiary of Datamatics Global Services.
Kanodia further said the acquisition will enable Mumbai-based Lumina Datatmatics to strengthen its suite of AI-enabled technology and .

A British Indian student has been elected president of the University of Cambridge's historic Cambridge Union Society, among the world's oldest debating societies which prides itself as a defender of free speech since 1815.
Anoushka Kale won 126 votes to be elected uncontested for the next Easter 2025 term in an election held recently. As the serving Debates Officer of the society, Kale ran on a platform of strengthening ties with cultural societies of the university such as the India Society.
I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been elected as President of the Cambridge Union Society for Easter 2025 and grateful for the membership's support, said Kale.
For my term, I will seek to expand diversity and access at the Union through greater collaboration with cultural groups, like the university's India Society. I am also especially passionate about continuing to host international speakers and global debate motions, as I did as Debates Officer of the society, she said.

The government is keen on holding wider consultations on bills it proposes to bring for implementing its 'one nation, one election' plan, sources said on Monday.
Though the proposed legislation or set of legislations has not yet been approved by the Union Cabinet, the government may bring it as early as the ongoing Winter session of Parliament, they noted.
The sources said once the bill or bills are introduced in Parliament, the government would like to refer the measures to a joint committee of the two Houses for wider consultations.
The government is also keen to consult all the Speakers of various state legislative assemblies through committees.
In September, sources had said that the government is likely to bring three bills, including two to amend the Constitution, to put in place its plan to hold simultaneous elections.

A computer science engineer and master's in public policy from Princeton University, Sanjay Malhotra, the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is a known consensus builder and the person instrumental in the implementation of the new income tax regime.
Malhotra, 56, is currently the Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and will succeed Shaktikanta Das, whose second three-year term comes to an end on December 10.
Malhotra, who has more than three decades of experience in public policy with expertise in areas like power, finance and taxation, takes guard at the central bank at a time when the economy is faced with the dual challenge of slowing growth rate and high inflation rate.
