Retirement fund body EPFO on Friday retained an interest rate of 8.25 per cent on employees' provident fund (EPF) deposits for 2024-25, sources said.
In February 2024, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had increased the interest rate on EPF marginally to 8.25 per cent for 2023-24, from 8.15 per cent in 2022-23.
In March 2022, EPFO had lowered the interest on EPF for 2021-22 to an over four-decade low of 8.1 per cent for its over seven crore subscribers, from 8.5 per cent in 2020-21.
The 8.10 per cent rate of interest on EPF for 2020-21 was the lowest since 1977-78, when the EPF interest rate stood at 8 per cent.
"The EPFO's apex decision making body Central Board of Trustees (CBT) has decided to provide 8.25 per cent rate of interest on EPF for 2024-25 at its meeting on Friday," a source said.
The 8.5 per cent interest rate on EPF deposits for 2020-21 was decided by CBT in March 2021.

Biotechnology firm Biocon on Friday said it has launched a product for diabetes and obesity management in the UK.
The GLP-1 peptide, Liraglutide, will be marketed in the UK under the brand names Liraglutide Biocon for diabetes and Biolide for chronic weight management, the company said in a statement.
The launch follows the approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), UK, earlier this year, making Biocon Ltd the first generics company to obtain approval for gLiraglutide in a major regulated market, it added.
"The timely launch will offer healthcare providers and patients affordable access to this drug and help fulfil an unmet need," Biocon CEO and MD Siddharth Mittal said.
The company will continue to focus its efforts towards expanding the reach of gLiraglutide into other European markets, the US and select geographies, he added.
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) are medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss.

The father of an Indian woman on death row in Abu Dhabi has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking to know her well-being.
In his petition, which is likely to come up for hearing on Monday, Shabbir Khan -- a? resident of Banda in Uttar Pradesh --? said there was "profound uncertainty" with respect to his daughter Shahzadi's condition, and his repeated applications to the Ministry of External Affairs for clarification were "fruitless".
The plea further alleged that Shahzadi was inadequately represented before the local courts in a case pertaining to the alleged murder of her employer's four-month-old child and she was pressured into "confessing", leading to the imposition of death penalty on July 31, 2023.
"On February 14, 2025, the petitioner's daughter telephoned him from detention, informing him that she had been relocated within the facility and prior to her potential execution, her final wish was to speak with her parents," the petition said.
