Budget: Samajwadi Party terms Budget pro-capitalist

Party says Budget had dashed the expectations of 'acche din' of millions of people

BS Reporter Lucknow

The ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh has termed Union Budget 2014-15 as pro-capitalist and direction-less.

It said the Budget had dashed the expectations of 'acche din' of millions of people and it was anti-farmer and anti-people.

Besides, the party lamented that a big state like UP had been neglected.

A party press communique said the Budget was unaccommodating about employment for youth or tackling runaway inflation in the country.

The Budget amply proved that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was uncaring towards farmers, poor and workers. The service class was expecting greater exemption in income tax (IT) slab, but the Budget promised no relief.

The party charged the Centre with compromising on country's security by proposing to open the sensitive defence sector to foreign direct investment (FDI).

The Budget had either retained the limit of grants under various heads or downsized them, while proposing cut in government expenditure, which the party claimed would hurt SC, ST and below poverty line (BPL) people.
