By virtue of being the first union budget after promulgating the landmark new National Education Policy (NEP) hardly six months ago, the Centre has fallen short in backing its own policy, feel education experts and academicians. 

Some moves have been welcomed by education experts and academicians, especially those announced as part of NEP such as introduction of legislation this year to implement the single regulatory body of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) and funding National Research Foundation (NRF) with Rs 50,000 crore for five years. However, many believe the budget has missed out on allocating enough funds to transform schools
