Information technology major Wipro has seen a 140 per cent increase in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in its existing projects since the launch of its ai360 strategy last year, according to a senior company executive.

In July of last year, Wipro committed to investing $1 billion to advance its AI capabilities over the next three years.

As part of this commitment, it introduced ai360, an “AI-first innovation ecosystem” aimed at integrating AI into every platform, tool, and solution used both internally and offered to clients.

“Since the launch of the ai360 strategy, Wipro has seen a 65 per cent increase in AI use cases, a 140 per cent increase in AI adoption in existing engagements, and a 40 per cent increase in industry-specific AI-led solutions,” Sanjeev Jain, chief operating officer, Wipro, told Business Standard.

“AI is a key differentiator for Wipro. We are seeing considerable growth in AI-infused projects and expect continued expansion of AI’s impact on our business,” added Jain.

Wipro’s AI services are in demand across key industry verticals such as financial services, retail, consumer goods, health care, and asset-heavy industries like manufacturing, energy, and utilities.

The company has been training its workforce on AI and generative AI (GenAI). So far, 225,000 employees have completed the basic GenAI 101 programme, and more than 30,000 employees have completed advanced levels of training.

“Our goal is to continuously upskill and reskill all our employees in AI technologies, tailored to their roles and functions,” Jain said.

Wipro has struck partnerships with IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore, and the Universities of Maryland and South Carolina to advance research and development and nurture the next generation of talent.

It also collaborates with partners such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services to provide training and certifications to employees.

Recently, Wipro launched the Credentialing programme, a suite of certifications designed to set industry benchmarks for excellence.

Wipro is observing huge interest from clients in adopting AI and GenAI, with many prepared to advance to the next phase of implementation.

“We see the integration of GenAI across business areas as pervasive and imminent. While there were early adopters and numerous experiments conducted in 2023, clients are increasingly becoming more literate about both the possibilities and limitations of this technology, preparing to move on to the next steps,” Jain noted.

“We have a growing number of GenAI projects delivered with the right level of human-in-the-loop and responsible AI tenets. The initial benefits have been encouraging, as GenAI tends to deliver superior stakeholder experiences, revenue generation insights, and cost optimisation,” Jain added.

Earlier this week, Wipro launched its Lab45 AI platform, leveraging GenAI, machine learning, and deep learning technologies to help companies enhance efficiencies and develop industry-specific solutions.

The platform boasts over 1,000 GenAI agents and more than 10 GenAI applications (apps), offering no-code and low-code pre-built applications for human resources, sales, marketing, and operations, while also enabling the easy creation of industry-specific GenAI agents and apps.
