BASF expands construction chemicals capacity in India with new plant in AP

The company has opened a new plant at Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) to meet the growing demands for durable and energy efficient construction materials

In a move that will bolster BASF’s capabilities to cater to the growing construction sector in the South India, the company opened its fifth construction chemicals plant in India at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh yesterday. “With its state-of-the-art technology, the plant will enable BASF to respond in a timely way to customers’ needs in the Southern part of India and to support them with high performance solutions in the highly competitive market,” said BASF in a press release.
 
BASF will produce standard and custom-made performance based concrete admixtures - MasterGlenium, MasterPolyheed and MasterRheobuild range – at the new site. In addition, construction systems, such as MasterTile, MasterSeal, MasterTop, and MasterEmaco series will also be manufactured, with the potential to expand to higher versions of MasterTile and MasterProtect series of products. The site also houses a multiple tank storage facility and a well-equipped concrete lab that will deliver tailor made recipes through formulation excellence.
 
Ralf Spettmann, president - construction chemicals, BASF, said, “With the new plant at Nellore, BASF offers a comprehensive range of solutions to help construct buildings that can be more energy efficient, durable and require fewer resources for maintenance.”
 
Dr Raman Ramachandran, chairman and managing director, BASF India Limited and head, BASF South Asia, said, “India is a strategic market for BASF and it is important to be able to respond to the local market in a timely manner. The Nellore site, an addition to our existing four construction chemicals plants in India, enables us to stay close to the customers and offer them customised solutions to meet the growing demands for multi-story buildings, long-lasting infrastructure constructions and more energy efficient construction techniques.”
 
The production plant is strategically located in the Naidupet area of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh with access to the road network and the Krishnapatnam Port. Other construction chemicals production sites in India are located in Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, Nalagarh and Kolkata.
