Chemical distribution company, Brenntag, has signed an agreement to acquire a part of the operational business of Kemira Water Denmark A/S registered in Copenhagen. Brenntag takes over the distribution of caustic soda, sulphuric and hydrochloric acids, solvents and packed coagulants previously directly distributed by Kemira and will operate the business from its existing facilities in Vejle, Kalundborg, Hosten and a new location in Copenhagen Harbour.

Torsten Walz, Managing Director, Brenntag Denmark, said, “Through this acquisition, we strengthen and expand our industrial chemicals product portfolio. Our customers will benefit from the extended product portfolio, further investment in our infrastructure and new, long-term strategic supplier relationships.”

“The divestment of our distribution business in Denmark is well in line with Kemira’s sharpened strategy presented earlier this year. The divested business is not a focus area of Municipal & Industrial segment and the transaction will have a positive impact to the segments EBIT margin. With Brenntag as our partner, Denmark will remain an important market for our water treatment solutions,” said Frank Wegener, President of Kemira’s Municipal & Industrial segment.

The acquired business generated in 2012 total sales of approximately Euro 15 million and the parties have agreed not to disclose further financial information. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of 2014.
