The tenth edition of Chemspec India, a dedicated event for the fine and speciality chemicals community, will be held in Mumbai’s Bombay Exhibition Centre from April 10-11, 2014. The two-day exhibition is organised by UK-based Quartz Business Media in association with Chemical Weekly, a weekly magazine for the chemical and allied industries.

The exhibition will aim to provide a definitive business experience by combining five events in one. These include Chemspec India exhibition, ChemProTech exhibition (focusing on chemical process technology and equipment), agrochemicals seminar, fine chemical technologies seminar and scientific update workshop sessions. This year will witness the fifth edition of the co-located exhibition, ChemProTech, which is organised jointly by Chemical Weekly, Koelnmesse YA Tradefair and Quartz Business Media with the support of leading industry associations.

Ravi Raghavan, Editor, Chemical Weekly, commented, “Even though the Indian chemical industry - estimated at around US$110-120 billion – is growing at around 8-10 percent per annum, the industry has for long been plagued by challenges including weak position in terms of access to essential raw materials and latest technologies, lack of economies of scale, dismal level of investment in R&D, lack of adequate infrastructure like dedicated and integrated chemical manufacturing zones, etc. The industry should look to leverage some of its key strengths like a domestic market with critical size, skilled workforce and world class engineering capabilities, favourable demographic dividend to improve its position in the global chemicals industry.”

He added, “The Indian government has identified the low-volume-high-value speciality chemicals sector as a thrust area for the chemical industry in India and expects it to grow at around 13-14 percent per annum in the next five year. Chemspec India – being a dedicated event for the speciality chemicals industry – aims to play a catalysing role in promoting increased trade and investments in this sector.”

Around 300 exhibitors from India and overseas will showcase fine and speciality chemical products at the event spread across 3,000 sq mtrs. Over 10,000 visitors from all over the globe are expected to attend the show over the two days.

As in the previous years, ChemSpec India 2014 will be preceded by the 15th Chemical Weekly Business Outlook Conference to be held at Goregaon, Mumbai from April 8-9, 2014. The theme of this conference is ‘Enhancing competitiveness & identifying opportunities’. This conference will deliberate on challenges and opportunities across the entire value chain of the chemical industry.
