Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) is planning to set up a facility to manufacture hydrazine hydrate using eco-friendly technology at Dahej. For this, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals has signed an agreement with CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) for the development of an environment friendly technology for manufacturing hydrazine hydrate – an import substitute product having its applications in water treatment, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals industries.
 
“The process for filing a joint patent application has been initiated. The process developed by CSIR-IICT is based on hydrogen peroxide route, which is environmentally benign. Currently, the requirement of hydrazine hydrate in India is largely met through imports,” said a GACL press release.
 
Under this agreement, CSIR-IICT has developed a bench scale process for manufacturing hydrazine hydrate and also successfully demonstrate on pilot scale at GACL’s Dahej complex in Gujarat. GACL is planning to establish a commercial plant, which will have a capacity to produce 8000 tonne per annum (TPA) of 80% hydrazine hydrate based on IICT technology and detailed designs. The plant will be installed at GACL’s Dahej complex
