Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc (MGC) has strengthened production capacity for specialty polycarbonate resins at the Kashima plant in Japan, increasing total capacity for these chemicals approximately threefold.

MGC will also launch the Iupizeta EP-8000, the specialty polycarbonate resin that delivers the highest refractive index (1.66) for compact high-resolution camera lenses.

MGC has been producing the Iupizeta EP, a series of specialty polycarbonate resins featuring high refractive indices and low birefringence, developing applications for products such as camera lenses and optical films. These specialty polycarbonate resins have recently been generating increasing demand in camera lenses used in mobile devices such as smartphones. In the future, they are also expected to find use in automotive systems and security cameras.
