Omkar Specialty Chemicals Ltd, one of the leading manufacturers of specialty chemicals and veterinary APIs, has commissioned the expanded capacity at its unit 1 in Badlapur, Maharashtra. With the capacity of the facility has been increased by 50 percent from 600 metric tonne per annum (MTPA) to 900 MTPA.

This facility, which will manufacture advanced intermediates having varied applications in pharmaceuticals, has successfully started commercial production after completing the requisite and necessary trial runs. 

"Omkar Specialty, over the past few years, has focused on the development and manufacturing of advanced molecules. Our endeavour is to develop new catalysts and catalytic processes that lead to development of high quality chemicals with better yields which lead to much more efficient processes resulting in incremental returns. This, we believe, is a sustainable business model for us and would enable us to maintain the current momentum and achieve new milestones," said Omkar Herlekar, whole-time director, Omkar Specialty Chemicals Ltd.
 
Omkar Speciality has total nine manufacturing units (including the facilities of its wholly-owned subsidiaries, of which 5 units are located in Badlapur, and the other 4 units at Chiplun and Mahad (both in Maharashtra).
