Shell Lubricants, the leading global supplier of finished lubricants, has selected India to launch its latest innovative hydraulic oils - Shell Tellus S2 MX and Shell Tellus S2 VX - targeted at OEMs and aftermarket segments. India marks the first leg of the global product launch which will be followed by unveiling of the new products across Singapore, Thailand, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Germany, Australia and France markets to name a few.

“India has emerged as one of the fastest growing economies globally, which is leading to increased optimism in the industrial sector. At the same time, Tellus is a well-known brand in the country. Hence, India was selected for the launch,” opined Akhil Jha, vice president technical, Shell Lubricants India, during the launch in Mumbai yesterday.

The Shell Tellus range of hydraulic oils have been developed to enable equipment operators to select the fluid that will help to deliver optimum value to their operations through wear protection, long fluid life, and system efficiency. The company has invested in R&D to upgrade the previous formulations to develop the next generation hydraulic oils that offer significantly improved performance in these three areas. Shell Tellus S2 MX and Shell Tellus S2 VX are the upgraded formulations of the Shell Tellus S2 M and S2 V hydraulic fluids respectively.

“For decades, Shell Tellus S2 hydraulic oils have set the industry benchmark for dependable lubricants that are trusted to deliver reliable equipment operations. Changes to equipment technology and operating conditions in recent years have placed increasing demands on the hydraulic oil. For example, demand for increased power output means equipment is often operating under higher loads and temperatures, which places increased stress on the hydraulic oil. In light of this, we have developed two upgraded formulations of Shell Tellus S2 hydraulic oils that deliver dramatically improved performance over the previous generation,” commented Hans Gerdes, Shell Tellus brand manager.

Hydraulic oils, with estimated consumption of 3.8 billion litres worldwide, account for about 50 percent of global industrial lubricants market. Asia Pacific is the leading consumer of hydraulic oils with approximately 40 percent followed by Europe (22 percent) and North America (21 percent). Recent growth in industrial as well as infrastructure sectors in India is likely to lead to buoyancy in demand for hydraulic oils, which are considered to be critical component for efficient running and safety of the machines. According to some experts, approximately 70 percent of hydraulic system failures are due to oil condition. Hence, by using high quality lubricants user can increase the efficiency and productivity of hydraulic equipment with reduction in equipment downtime and lower maintenance costs.
