Tata Chemicals Ltd has temporarily stopped production of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) from its Haldia plant in West Bengal. The company said that it will continue to supply DAP, which is the most widely used fertiliser after urea, to its customer from the already existing inventory and imports.
“Due to emerging market conditions with effect from June 19, 2016, the company has decided to supply di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) to its customers from inventory in hand and imports, and consequently production of complex fertilisers, including DAP, is being temporarily suspended at Haldia, West Bengal,” said Tata Chemicals in a BSE filing on June 17, 2016. The company will continue the production of single super phosphate (SSP) from the site.
Tata Chemicals’ Haldia plant, which has capacity of 1.2 MTPA, is the sole manufacturing unit for DAP/NPK complexes in West Bengal.
While India had driven phosphate demand in 2015 (with DAP imports up 776 kilo tonne), market is expected to remain subdued in 2016 due to high inventory levels (1,700 kilo tonne DAP inventory in India).
