For undertaking maintenance program, Tata Chemicals Ltd has decided to temporarily shut down its Babrala fertiliser plant in Uttar Pradesh. “Operations at the company's fertiliser plant at Babrala will be temporarily shut down for the purpose of the planned, regular, major maintenance program generally taken once in two years. The shutdown is starting from March 22, 2016 and will approximately last for 30 days,” said Tata Chemicals in a BSE filing on March 22, 2016.

Tata Chemicals’ Babrala plant has installed capacity of 864,600 tonnes of urea per year, which constitutes nearly 12 per cent of the total urea produced by the country’s private sector. Babrala plant has two identical streams, each of 1,310 tonnes per day capacity of urea. It is the only fertiliser plant in the country that uses dual feedstock - natural gas and naphtha.
