Tessenderlo Group, a global specialty company focusing on food, agriculture, water management and on valorising bio-residuals, has agreed to sell its Aliphos feed phosphate business to EcoPhos, an entrepreneurial Belgian producer and developer with feed phosphate as its core activity. The sale comprises one production site in Rotterdam, Netherlands, three sales offices (Germany, Spain, Poland). The phosphate production at the Ham site (Belgium), which will be closed down end 2013 for environmental reasons, is not part of the transaction.

This transaction is not subject to approval by the authorities. After closing, which is expected in the first quarter of 2014, EcoPhos will become the new owner of the feed phosphate activity of Tessenderlo Group.

Sophie Haan, Director of the Inorganics Business Unit, Tessenderlo, commented, “We are happy to announce today that we have found a new owner who will bring value to the Aliphos business, who will invest in the growth and the competitive strength of the business for the future.”

Mohamed Takhim, CEO and Founder, EcoPhos, said, “This transaction is an important step in EcoPhos’ strategy to become a leader in the ecologically friendly production, sale and distribution of phosphate products.”

A debottlenecking and investment program is ongoing at the Aliphos Rotterdam plant. At the Ham site, which is not in scope, an in depth transformation is under way to prepare the plant to become a dedicated potassium fertiliser plant as from 2014.

Tessenderlo Group’s Aliphos business has since long been one of the world's largest producers of inorganic feed phosphates for animal feeds. Its products are globally marketed under the Aliphos, Windmill and AliGlys brand names.
