Thirumalai Chemicals plans expansion in India and Malaysia

The industrial chemicals maker Thirumalai Chemicals Ltd (TCL) will enhance the capacity of phthalic anhydride and fine chemicals in India, while its Malaysian arm - Optimistic Organic Sdn Bhd (OOSB) - will set up food ingredients and fine chemicals plants. The decisions on plant upgradation was taken at the board meeting held yesterday. 

The company is already executing an upgradation project, which is nearing completion, for its fine chemicals and food ingredients units. This will add about 40 percent capacity by Q4 of the current year in these divisions.

Yesterday, the board approved the upgradation of its phthalic anhydride plants with newer technology, which will be completed in FY18. Thirumalai Chemicals will also expand its fine chemicals capacities by a further 40 percent in FY18 to meet the growing demand for this product. All these projects will be funded internally.
 
Thirumalai Chemicals’ wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary Optimistic Organic, which has recently completed expansion of maleic anhydride capacity to 45,000 tonnes, is planning further increase the capacity of this unit. OOSB will also build food ingredients and fine chemicals plants based on TCL India's technology in Malaysia.
