Veerappa Moily dedicates POL berth at New Mangalore Port to nation

The Minister also lays the foundation stone for new container and bulk cargo berth at the port

The Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) berth number 13, built with an estimated cost of Rs 79.17 crore, at New Mangalore Port (NMP), Panambur, was dedicated to the nation by M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, today. The berth has a capacity of handling cargo to the tune of 7.8 million tonnes per annum.
 
The Minister also laid the foundation stone for berth number 18, to be built with an investment of Rs 137.44 crore, for container and bulk cargo at New Mangalore Port. The berth, which will come up in 20 months, will be used in handling bulk cargo and containers.
 
According to Veerappa Moily, the upcoming petrochemical industry at the Mangalore Special Economic Zone in Karnataka is likely to attract investment of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in the future.
