Water shortage forces Grasim to suspend operations at VSF plant in MP

Grasim Industries Limited, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has suspended operations at its plants in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, due to water shortage.
 
"Due to water shortage caused by deficient rain last year, the production of viscose stable fibre (VSF) at the company's plant located at Nagda is expected to be suspended from June 5, 2016 in a phased manner and will be resumed on the arrival of monsoon and availability of adequate water," said Grasim Industries on June 4, 2016 in a BSE filing.
 
To cater to the requirements of its customers, the company will supply VSF from its avialable stock and other plants located at Kharach and Vilayat in Gujarat and Harihar in Karnataka. "In view of adequate stock available with the company, VSF sales are not likey to be affected," he added.
   
Meanwhile, Grasim Industries will carry out the requisite preventive maintenance and repair at the Nagda plant during the period.
 
The company has also decided to operate the chlor alkali plant at a lower capacity to the extent of availability of water.
