Alstom T&D commissions Rajasthan's first 765kV substation at Anta

Alstom T&D India has successfully commissioned the Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited’s (RVPN) 765 kV substation in Anta, Rajasthan. Anta is the state’s first 765 kV substation, and the second largest with a total of twenty-six bays, ten 765 kV bays and sixteen 400 kV bays. This substation will play a significant role in pooling and evacuating the power flow from the three major power plants in the state (Kalisindh, Kawai and Chhabra) to the national grid.

The turnkey project for Anta substation was awarded to Alstom T&D India in September 2011.  The contract included installation of three banks of 3x500 MVA, 765/400 kV transformers, 765 kV reactors, other 765 kV equipment and civil works with a total order value of nearly Euro 52 million (Rs 421.2 crore).

The Anta substation was set up by RVPN under the transmission system augmentation scheme to meet the growing energy demand in the state. Currently, Rajasthan has an installed capacity of more than 5,000 MW, with over 3,000 MW still under construction.

Rathin Basu, country president, Alstom India & South Asia, said, “Despite challenging weather conditions, the Alstom and RVPN team commissioned the prestigious project in time to initiate power flow between Anta and Phagi substations. We look forward to building future HV and EHV substations to strengthen Rajasthan’s electrical grid, including potential large scale induction of renewable power.”

Recently, Alstom T&D India has also secured an order from RVPN to supply a 400/220 kV substation in Bhadla, and expand the existing 400/220 kV substation in Bikaner, both situated in the state of Rajasthan.
