NTPC awards $ 219 mn contract to Alstom Bharat Forge

NTPC has awarded a contract worth $219 million (Rs 1,495 crore) to Alstom Bharat Forge Power Private Limited (ABFPPL), the joint venture company between GE and Bharat Forge Ltd, for the execution a thermal power project in Telangana.
 
As per the contract, ABFPPL will supply two units of 800 Mw ultra-supercritical steam turbine generator islands on EPC basis, along with related civil work for the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project phase 1 near Ramagundam in Karimnagar district. The equipment for the project will be manufactured majorly at ABFPL’s manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat.
 
The 800-MW steam turbine generator islands for the power plant will be the first with ultra-supercritical parameters and will help in meeting the ever increasing power demand of southern states in India by adding 1,600 MW to the electricity grid. The total power demand from the southern region is estimated at 34,000 MW.
   
Alstom Bharat Forge Power Pvt Ltd was created to participate in the Indian market of turbines islands (steam turbines and generators, heat exchangers and all associated equipment). The JV manufactures 300-800 MW subcritical and supercritical equipment with an annual capacity of 4000 MW.
