Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd (RDEL), a part of Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, has entered into an association with Allrig, the US-based company that provides service support for onshore and offshore installations, to provide MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) service to oil & gas sector in South East Asia region - including India.

The association aims to bring in the strategic advantages of high quality services at competitive cost and lower turnaround time to upstream companies operating in the Indian subcontinent with respect to jack-up rigs, drilling rigs and other float & fixed oil & gas assets.

Together RDEL & Allrig will provide solutions for class approved spares, repairs, upgradation and warranty support for critical equipment of old assets where OEM support is not feasible. The step is expected to help the offshore asset owners operating in the Indian subcontinent, who have to look towards other far-off service providers for their service needs.

Under the partnership, Reliance Defence's shipyard at Pipavav (Gujarat) would be developed as a one-stop-shop solution for all the service needs of upstream companies such as dry docking, inspection, repair, overhaul, upgradation, rectification, maintenance and spare services.

"RDEL yard's excellent location and world class infrastructure along with Allrig’s superior capabilities will bring up synergies to provide high quality services," informed Dr A K Balyan, CEO, oil & gas business, Reliance Group.

The RDEL-Allrig association will take part in various opportunities in Indian subcontinent and South East market, which is estimated at about Rs 7,000 crore. The partnership will particularly target ONGC and other regional drilling contractor community. Allrig, in association with RDEL shipyard, can localise its presence and can provide array of services including quayside and dry docking works.
