Built with an investment of Rs 1000 crore, the plant will have manufacturing capacity of close to 1,000 tonne glass a day initially

Saint-Gobain to open glass manufacturing complex in Rajasthan

Saint-Gobain, the France-based building materials company, will inaugurate its Rs 1000-crore ($185 mn) glass manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, today. The plant will be inaugurated by Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, in presence of Pierre-Andre De Chalendar, Chairman and CEO, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain (the parent company of Saint-Gobain Glass India) and Francois Richier, Ambassador of France to India.
 
The plant, which will is one of the world’s largest float glass manufacturing facilities, is a part of Saint-Gobain Glass India’s plan to tap opportunities in the growing Indian market. The location of the plant, about 65 km from Delhi, is idea for catering to the fast growing North-West corridor between Delhi and Mumbai.
 
Spread over 136 acres, the plant will have manufacturing capacity of close to 1,000 tonne glass a day. Once the plant is fully operational by mid-2015, the company will have a total installed capacity to produce 9,000 tonne of glass per day.
 
Saint-Gobain, which is considered to be a leader in float glass and mirrors and range of automotive glass products, is also reportedly looking to expand its portfolio in the country.
