The US-based Invista - one of the world’s largest integrated producers of chemical intermediates, polymers and fibres and the maker of Lycra brand - has successfully started up its new 215,000-tonne hexamethylene diamine (HMD) plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in China.
Bill Greenfield, president of Invista Intermediates, “This is yet another key milestone in the region following Invista breaking ground on this new facility in early 2014. Asia - and China in particular - remains a region with long-term potential for demand growth in nylon 6,6, and the new HMD facility enables us better support our customers. Through this local production asset, we can provide better service and shorter lead time, further demonstrating our commitment to supporting the increasing regional demand.”
The new facility utilises Invista’s most advanced technology to produce hexamethylene diamine, a key intermediate used in the production of nylon 6,6 polymers and fibres, polyurethanes and high performance polyamides that ultimately become part of air bags, automobile parts, carpet, coatings, workout apparel, outdoor equipment and more.
