Shubhra Mohanty: The entrepreneur trying to bridge the gender gap
Speaker and Founder of Women and Convention urges women to be self-made entrepreneurs
It is a shocking fact to comprehend that on a global level the number of women who participated in the labor force dropped from 51.0% in 1990 to merely 46.9% in the year 2020. Understanding that less than half of the female population present is involved in the labor force in itself says a lot about the working culture of the corporates or even the emerging entrepreneurs in various domains. Shubhra Mohanty, founder of ‘Women and Convention’, a commendable motivational speaker, and an egalitarian by heart stresses on the idea that more and more women should break the barriers of such corporate misogyny and start an endeavor of their own aiming to become their own thought leaders.
Being a victim of misogyny herself, Shubhra learned the truth about the corporate world very early on her journey. She realized that women need to acknowledge their eminence around the round tables in order to make other people aware of their congeniality in the workplace. Having seen times when the world forced upon her the reasons to be a stay-at-home mom rather than a working professional, she chose to rise above all the rules laid for her and tread on a career path that she decided for herself. Garnering support from her loved ones, she tackled all the unprecedented challenges that were thrown her way and turned out as a motivation for all other women entrepreneurs who keep second-guessing their decisions just because someone else lands them in turmoil.
Taking inspiration from the leading ladies of the world, the thought leader shares, “Moving ahead in life, we face a lot of situations that we weren’t prepared for. Especially as a woman, you may find yourself at such crossroads all the time where you’d need to decide what is worthy of your time and effort. It is my advice to all the ladies out there that keep striving for the better and nurture yourself and your hobbies in a way that could sooner or later turn into a profession.” Shubhra Mohanty emphasizes on the idea that a person’s goals can change with time so listen to your instincts and wait for the moment of epiphany which will guide you along the trajectory to climb higher on the success ladder.
Through the medium of ‘Women and Convention’, Shubhra urges all the women in the world to keep their options open and embrace every opportunity that comes along their way. She mentions how having a side hustle can lead to a huge change in their lives. Being an entrepreneur in today’s world means being the master of your own success and your own life as well. Every word that Shubhra says puts weight on the same idea and comes out as some food for thought. Through her organization, she also provides the necessary protection for women to both advance in the corporate hierarchy and combat any abnormalities that occur in their jobs. They hold workshops, training, and one-on-one interactions to assist women to gain the confidence they need to succeed in the workplace.
Being an exemplary entrepreneur herself, Shubhra’s road to touching horizons was not as straightforward as it seems. It is easy to achieve milestones with the support of others, but it is way difficult when one has to work from scratch. She is a self-made woman who has risen like a phoenix with her talent and dedication towards her work. Inspiration for the ladies of the world, Shubhra Mohanty is a woman of profound talent, who could certainly be looked up to for her idealistic, egalitarian, and cheerful approach towards life.
