Tokyo - As part of its response to the ongoing COVID-19 related situation in India, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (“SMBC”) is committing an additional Rs 65 million (JPY 96 million) to deliver ongoing relief to affected communities in India. This is further to our support already undertaken with local hospitals.
The additional outlay set aside for Indian COVID-19 relief related support will be spent to procure PPE kits, medical grade oxygen concentrators, ventilators and Emergency Medical Pods for needy hospitals across India.
As a company with employees in India as well as customers and connections to the community, SMBC is determined to support India through this health crisis and help where we can.
SMBC has been actively engaged in providing covid related relief since the start of the pandemic last year and will continue to work with and support those worst affected by the pandemic. Earlier this year, SMBC facilitated supply of PPE kits, gloves and face masks, for frontline healthcare professionals at eight government hospitals in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai through a funding of Rs 22 million, where the timely support was appreciated by the beneficiary hospitals.
With a strong presence in India, SMBC will continue to work together with the local communities they operate in, to provide further support initiatives to address the impact of the pandemic so that not only customers and employees but society as a whole, can lead safe, healthy lives.
