The entire world is connected because of social media: Dr Rupa Murthy
.

Dr Rupa Murthy is a US-based Indian. She is a social influencer who has followers from across the world. She says that being an influencer on social media is challenging, specially when your posts are political.
Sharing her views on what’s it like being a social media influencer in the current times, she says it takes a lot of effort and time to keep up with the news and to ensure the news is not fake. She tries her best to do due diligence before posting anything, but there have been occasional instances where something she posted turned out to be fake news. And that’s when it gets challenging. “I see it as a responsibility towards my friends and followers, to present authentic news. I am pretty straightforward, almost blunt. I am not afraid to call spade a spade, so there are some people that love me for that, some that think it is arrogance,” says Murthy.
She admits that social media has become an important medium of communication in the recent times. It is as important as TV, radio or any news media. In fact, the entire world is connected because of social media. We know more about other countries, different cultures, and the problems, weaknesses and strengths of other countries. Within the country itself, we are more connected.
Murthy feels that social media influences personal life as well. She has met many people from different parts of India on social media, and some have turned into beautiful friendships in real life. She has learnt a lot about various religious and social practices of different states and it has been an eye opener for her.
She also feels that social media is a great tool to connect people from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds when used properly. “I have met some bright students from less privileged families, helped them with their education, met some families in dire economic conditions and helped them out,” shares Murthy.
