Asia Cup 2023, India vs Pakistan Playing 11 live updates: KL Rahul reflects on how he got injured during IPL

Talking about his thigh injury, which happened during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and his franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 1, he said that he suffered a full tendon tear. After scans made it clear that the injury was big, KL had no choice but to undergo surgery.

"I tried chasing a ball, but my tendon snapped. I had a full-fledged tear, my tendon ripped apart from my quadriceps. When it happened, my family, franchise and everyone had their fingers crossed hoping it was not something big, but a small strain that could go in two weeks. But after scans, we realised it was a full tear and it became clear that I could recover from it after going under the knife. It took us a few days to decide where I was supposed to go for surgery and who was the best surgeon and I would like to thank BCCI, physios, and doctors who made sure I got the best treatment and surgery. You need the support of people at such times and I had it," said the batter.

Will fit-again KL Rahul find place in India's Playing 11 today? Here's what the Karnataka batter said on his recovery

Indian middle-order batter and wicketkeeper KL Rahul on Sunday recalled his journey back into the team after sustaining an injury and how time away from the game helped him discover love and enjoyment for training.

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four clash in Colombo on Sunday. KL will also be making his return to the team after not featuring in the Asia Cup group stage due to a niggle.

Talking about his return from injury in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), KL said, "I am feeling good. It is good to be back with the team. It has been quite some time since I have been away. I am glad everything worked out on schedule, happy I could tick all the boxes."

Asia Cup 2023, India vs Pakistan Playing 11 live updates: Expert opinion

Manjrekar spoke on how the Indian top order should prepare themselves to fave Shaheen Shah Afridi in the upcoming clash between India and Pakistan

"Actually, the match between India and Pakistan was a very interesting clash between Shaheen Afridi versus India’s 1, 2, and 3. Gill, Rohit, and Virat. The opening phase had two spells; in the first spell before the rain had come, he was bowling typical Shaheen Afridi kind of deliveries."

"He was bowling further up the pitch, trying to get the ball to swing inwards, and that length was being played very well by Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma. Shaheen Afridi, instead of bowling it up further, which he thought was his main weapon – to bring the ball up further and have it swing, was being played very well by the Indian team and the Indian openers."

"After that, the rain happened, and Waqar Younis, who was in commentary with me, said that he should pull his length a bit back; it should be a little short. And after the rain, someone must have spoken to Shaheen Afridi, and after the break, he brought his length back and in that length, the good length, Rohit Sharma got out, and so did Virat."

"So it wasn’t the typical Shaheen Afridi kind of delivery that troubled the Indian batters, but the shorter length, meaning the movement from the pitch made them out. So they need to prepare for these kinds of deliveries as well, but for the main swinging delivery of Shaheen Afridi, the good news was that both Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill weren’t phased by that."

Asia Cup 2023, India vs Pakistan Playing 11 live updates: Expert opinion

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar spoke on how important Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan’s innings were in context to the previous game between India and Pakistan:
  • "See the match that happened between India and Pakistan, there was no result to the match, but it was a great result for India, and the main result which India wanted was that contribution from Hardik Pandya, the runs, and Ishan Kishan also played well. And the two of them played so well because it was out of character."
  • "Both Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya. And the talk about Hardik is that he is a very aggressive player, whenever he wants he can hit massive sixes, but for almost 70 minutes, Hardik Pandya was only taking singles and building his innings because he had to play conservatively."
  • "50 overs cricket is a game of singles, especially the middle phase, it is a very boring phase for both the crowd and the players, but both Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan played that boring phase, played their innings well, and brought India to a respectable position. So that was a very good result for India, that partnership and how they forgot their natural game and kept the team's needs ahead of that. I think that was the best finding from that match."

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash: Fans confident of India's victory in second encounter

Cricket fans can't seem to control their excitement as the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan meet for their second clash in the Asia Cup on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in the Sri Lankan City of Colombo.

Expressing their excitement, Indian fans said that they are confident of India's win in the second encounter with Pakistan. India will play their first Super Four stage match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan in Colombo on Sunday.

Some aspiring players at a cricket academy in Ranchi extended their support to team India and said that they were confident of India's victory.

One of the players at the academy while talking to ANI said, "...At the international level you have to face all kinds of bowlers and I believe the Indian team is prepared for that. We are expecting a better performance in this match as compared to the last one...Indian team would want to focus on their top order and not repeat the mistakes they did in the last match."

The group stage match between India and Pakistan was called off due to rain, with both teams sharing one point each. In the match, the Indian batting team struggled in front of Pakistan's pace attack, especially Shaheen Afridi who had taken four wickets in the match.

India were bundled out at 266 in 48.5 overs with Hardik Pandya's 87 and Ishan Kishan's 82 helping the team post a decent target. However, rain played spoilsport and the match was called off without Pakistan facing a single ball.

Another player of the academy mentioned Pakistan having a strong bowling attack but he expressed his confidence in the Indian team.

"Pakistan is a good team and we can't ignore them...with Shaheen Afridi and other Pakistani bowlers in form, their bowling attack is really strong...we are hoping for aggressive cricket from Indian players... players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Dhoni used to play attacking cricket from the very first ball, we hope that our top order plays in a similar manner today..." he said.

Meanwhile, with clouds once again looming over Colombo, Babar said that the team is focused on what it can control.

"We are focusing on things we can control. It rained for four days. The way the sun is out does not look like it will rain. But we will focus on utilising whatever time we get to the best of our abilities," he said.

Will Suryakumar Yadav gets a chance in India's Playing 11 today?

Though there are chances of India making few changes in their Playing 11 today. But it will be highly improbable that Suryakumar will get a chance given the management wants to give Shreyas Iyer as much time in the middle before the World Cup in India.
