1st Test Day 3 | IND vs NZ LIVE SCORE UPDATES: Today's pitch report

"Sunny skies today, and the surface now looks more suitable for batting. We mentioned there was a lot of moisture earlier, but that has dried up. The cracks have widened, and every spot the bowlers hit yesterday has left dents on the surface. This could cause some uneven bounce," observed Simon Doull and Murali Karthik.

Rohit Sharma takes onus of batting first on damp pitch

India captain Rohit Sharma admitted he was "hurting" after his team slumped to its lowest-ever total of 46 at home on the second day of the opening Test against New Zealand.

After Rohit chose to bat in overcast conditions, India's innings collapsed in just 31.2 overs, with five home batters failing to score.

"As captain, it hurts to see a score of 46, especially since it was my decision to bat first. But having one or two poor decisions in a year is something we can live with," Rohit said during the post-day press conference.

This score of 46 all-out marks the first time the team has failed to cross the 50-run mark in a Test innings at home.

India’s previous lowest Test total at home was 75, set almost 37 years ago against the West Indies in November 1987, in Delhi.

1st Test Day 3 | IND vs NZ LIVE SCORE UPDATES: Will Pant come out for keeping today?

Rishabh Pant re-injured his operated knee during the final session on Day 2. He was in considerable pain and limped off the field. In the post-match press conference, captain Rohit Sharma stated that the decision to take Pant off was precautionary.

"Rishabh got hit on the left knee, the same as he had surgery. So he left the field more as a precautionary measure. Hopefully we can see him back on field tomorrow," Rohit said at the end of day's play.

Dhruv Jurel came in to keep wickets, and it will be interesting to see whether the substitute will continue or if Pant will return to resume wicketkeeping.
