Sunrisers Hyderabad never looked too dominant in the chase but were never out of it either. With fifty-plus partnerships for the first two wickets, they remained in the hunt all the time. Abhishek Sharma scored a fifty while Rahul Tripathi scored 47.
Later on, they lost quick wickets and Glenn Phillips was summoned to the middle with 41 needed off the last two overs. He hit Kuldip Yadav for 22 runs in the first four balls of the 19th and got out on the fifth.
With 17 needed in the last over, the onus was on Abdul Samad who hit Sandeep Sharma for a six off the second ball after being dropped of the first. In fact, he took 11 of the first four balls and was back on strike with five needed off the last one.
Sandeep executed the yorker and Samad was caught at long-off. But just when everyone thought that the game was done and dusted, the umpired his right horizontal to the ground and indicated a no-ball. It became a free hit off the last ball with four runs to win and Samad hit the fuller-length ball down the ground for a six to register the highest-ever run chase against the Royals.
Earlier in the evening, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rajasthan Royals scored 214/2 in their 20 overs. Jos Buttler hit 95 while skipper Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 66.
