India vs Australia 2nd Test Day 1 full scorecard
Australia dominated the day one of the 2nd Test ate Adelaide as after dismissing India on just 180 in the first two sessions, they held their nerves with the bat in the final session to end the day with scoreboard reading 86 for 1 after 33 overs at stumps. The hosts still trail by 94 runs in the first innings and will hope to finish the gap in the first session of day 2.
Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first.
His decision backfired quickly as Mitchell Starc trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal in front of the wicket on the first ball, giving India their first setback. KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) then added 69 runs for the second wicket to stabilize the Indian innings. However, Australia made a quick turnaround and reduced India’s score from 69 for 1 to 109 for 6, getting back into the match. Perth Test’s first innings top-scorer Nitish Kumar Reddy (42) and Ravichandran Ashwin (22) tried to rejuvenate the Indian innings, but they were eventually bundled out for just 180 in 44.1 overs.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the standout performer with a spell of 6 for 44, his best in Test cricket, surpassing his previous best of 6 for 50 against Sri Lanka in the 2016 Galle Test. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took two wickets each to wrap up the Indian innings.
In reply, Australia, with the loss of one wicket, added 86 runs by the end of the day, reducing the first innings score gap with India to 94. Nathan McSweeney (38 not out) and Marnus Labuschagne (20 not out) were still at the crease and will start Day 2 action for Australia on Saturday.
